One of my customer recently reported that they were not able to start SQL Server Agent after a new SQL installation.

The first thing I did was to review SQLAGENT.OUT and below is how it looked like.

RESOLUTION
We backed up the registry and deleted all keys under below hive except “Triple DES 168”.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProvid
ers\SCHANNEL\Ciphers

Attempted to start SQL Server Agent again and it came online just fine.
